The Moments

Not biographies.
Single pivotal moments.

The people who do this work are not defined by their titles. They are defined by the night, the afternoon, the crossing that changed everything.

Adaeze Nwosu, legal director, warm office light, serious and composed

Adaeze Nwosu

Former Federal Prosecutor

Legal Director, West Africa Corridor
"The night she argued until 4 a.m. to stop a deportation, the judge finally looked up from his notes."

The flight was scheduled for 6 a.m. At 2 a.m., Adaeze was still at the courthouse, filing emergency motions. By 4 a.m., the judge had read them. The plane left without her client.

47 deportations prevented in 2025

Mihail Popescu, field coordinator, candid outdoor light, calm expression

Mihail Popescu

Former Social Worker, Bucharest

Field Coordinator, Eastern Europe
"He drove eleven hours through a border crossing that wasn't supposed to exist anymore."

The route had been closed for three years. Mihail knew a checkpoint officer who remembered what the work was for. He arrived with two survivors and a thermos of coffee that had gone cold somewhere in Hungary.

Priya Venkataraman

Survivor & Policy Trainer

Survivor-Advocate, South Asia Program
"The afternoon she walked back into the courthouse she once fled, she was training the officers inside."

She had memorized every exit in that building once. Now she stood at the front of the room and told law enforcement what they get wrong about identification — because she had been missed, twice, by people who should have known.
